Uncommon Ground
In a world where everything is moving faster and the call for authenticity is getting louder, the past, present and future are in a race.
Uncommon Ground is the fusion and confirmation of the uniqueness of these three artists in their own language, telling their own stories in this joint exhibition. The artists stand side by side, not in harmony, but in deliberate dissonance. Their works, though radically different in form and content, orbit shared questions of memory, identity, and embodiment - each from a radically personal point of view.
Curated strategically, rather than seeking cohesion but exploring contrasts, it invites viewers into a space where narratives diverge, aesthetics clash, and meanings multiply.
The exhibition becomes a site of discussion and negotiation - between private pasts and public symbols, the vulnerable body and the constructed image, memory and myth.

The exhibition will take place at Atelierhof Kreuzberg in Berlin, Germany from the 6th of September to the 14th of September 2025.
Artists
The artists, each with their own unique perspective and aesthetic, were brought together for this exhibition. The works on display are not meant to be a cohesive whole, but rather individual expressions of the artists' experiences and thoughts. The exhibition is a celebration of the diversity of human experience and the power of art to express and explore that diversity.
Barbara Evina
Barbara Evina is a Berlin-based painter whose work bridges personal reflection and collective experience within the African diaspora in Europe. Originally from Cameroon, her practice centers on Black femininity, belonging, rest, and resilience - captured through the rich textures of oil paint and pastels.
Painting became her language of introspection during the Covid-19 pandemic, evolving into a powerful tool for connection. Her first solo exhibition in Berlin marked a turning point, affirming the emotional resonance of her fabulous work.
Guided by memory, migration, and political awareness, Barbara’s art resists static interpretation. She paints layered truths - inviting viewers to see themselves, or something entirely different, within.

Philip Hudgson Dorrel
Philip Hudgson Dorrel is an artist, whose works are made with used coffee capsules, using them as pixels by placing them next to each other, not altering neither their colors nor their form, however, giving them a new meaning. His themes are to give voice to the beauty that already exists, highlighting recognizable images from art, cinema or television, but also family, friends and childhood memories.
With these works he wants to take the audience or viewers on a different path to redefine their way of thinking about things, art, consumption and communication, creating a space for dialogue. It is also a small contribution to environment protection and sustainability.

Art of Akume
Akume's practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of the human condition. The artist is fascinated by the way we use our bodies to express ourselves, and the ways in which our bodies are used to control and manipulate us. The work is a commentary on the societal norms that dictate how we should present ourselves, and the ways in which we are policed and judged for not conforming to these norms.
Akume's sculptures are both beautiful and grotesque, inviting the viewer to question their own desires and the ways in which they are conditioned to respond to certain forms and images. The artist is not afraid to push boundaries and challenge the viewer, and the work is often provocative and uncomfortable.
